Based in the UK, our customer is a major energy services organisation who has been operating for over 20 years at the heart of the UK energy market.

The customer delivers and operates systems on behalf of energy companies and they also provide energy services to large energy consumers and multi-site organisations.

Multiple systems and sources of data with limited sharing

The customer had an ambitious growth plan that included the acquisition of other energy businesses, enabling them to offer additional services to the UK energy market.

Through these acquisitions, systems had become disparate and less integrated leading to operational inefficiency, data integrity challenges and challenges around reporting business performance to Investors and Regulators.

Many of the business functions were supported by manual processes including a blend of spreadsheets or paper-based processes. This made month-end financial and operational reporting a lengthy process, due to the requirement to reconcile data and manually collate data from multiple sources.

Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations

The customer approached Incremental directly to evaluate Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations as it integrated with its other Microsoft applications and easily connected with other asset management systems in their business.

Incremental focused on understanding the customer’s requirements and delivered a compelling Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations demonstration, using the customer’s data, to showcase how this could deliver the requirements using standard functionality. Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations works across five of the customer’s locations in the UK and integrates with their asset management system. This unified approach gives the customer all the data they need from all locations in a single secure cloud-based repository, helping to facilitate the standardisation of processes and deliver accurate and efficient management reporting across finance and asset management.

The customer required a partner with in-depth Dynamics ERP knowledge as well as experience within the energy sector which led to the selection of Incremental as its Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations partner.

Improved decision making and efficiency

The customer now has an enterprise ERP system which meets its complex and continually evolving business needs and adds value across the business and to its customers. The system will grow with their business and accommodate its future M&A activity.

Month-end accounting and reporting periods have dramatically reduced and data quality and management information have improved. Further improvements are expected as the ERP system beds in further and is rolled-out across all locations. With the time to gather data for month-end-reporting dramatically reduced, staff are now free to focus on other value-adding tasks.

Further integration across the operation and locations

Financial reporting has been centralised and is now more efficient thanks to the introduction of Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations integrated with the customer’s asset management system.

Additionally, the integration between Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations with the asset management system has provided the customer with improved visibility into fixed assets and stock management which have enabled more accurate forecasting that contribute to month-end-reporting.
