Incremental’s Women in Tech Discovery Day event creates opportunities for attendees to learn, connect and develop careers in technology.

In collaboration with Microsoft TechHer, Incremental hosted a Women in Tech Discovery Day at its Glasgow office on Friday 12 May 2023. The event was designed to empower and excite women looking to return or reskill in a technology role or company and attracted a diverse group of aspiring technologists eager to explore and excel in this field.

The event showcased Incremental and Microsoft’s dedication to bridging the gender gap and empowering talented women to pursue rewarding careers in technology. The event featured an impressive line-up of speakers with sessions tailored to inspire and equip attendees with the necessary knowledge and skills to thrive in the tech industry.

The event was led by Linda McAulay – Incremental People Director – who kicked off the day with an introduction to Incremental, before handing over to Mark Gorton – Telefónica Tech UK&I CEO – who covered a piece on the importance of diversity and achieving success in a traditionally male-dominated industry.

Claire Carmichael – Head of Capital Markets – provided some valuable insight into what it takes to solve customer problems, with the Microsoft solutions we offer, by sharing some real-life examples. This led nicely into a session on the Power of the Microsoft Partnership which explored an overview of the Incremental/Microsoft partnership, career stories and Microsoft learning pathways. This slot was delivered by our Microsoft partners: Li Ching Gan – Partner Technology Strategist, Charis Jamieson – Windows 365 Go-to-Market Manager and Julia Whittle – Account Executive.

Attendees also had a chance to mingle with speakers and attendees alike over a light lunch, providing an opportunity to expand their professional networks in a supportive and encouraging environment.

The second half of the event comprised of the below interactive breakout sessions, which gave attendees a chance to learn and share in smaller groups and gain some hands-on technical experience.

  • Breakout 1: Tech Toys by Maha Abhishek (Community and Grants Officer @ Digital Xtra Fund)
  • Breakout 2: Career Development at Incremental by Paula Dunlop (People Business Partner) and Danielle Moore (Associate People Business Partner)
  • Breakout 3: How to build a Power App by Bethany McBride (M365 Consultant)
  • Breakout 4: Alternative routes into STEM by Linda McAulay (People Director)

The feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with attendees expressing their gratitude for the empowering and insightful experience the event offered. Many shared their excitement about the prospect of leveraging the knowledge gained to drive positive change and contribute to the growth of the tech industry. The event closed with an insight into the Microsoft TechHer community and Microsoft learning pathways, delivered by Lorraine Nicol – Partner Development Manager at Microsoft.
